Co-host of “The Bottom Line” on Fox Business Sean Duffy joins Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla to give his take on whether House Majority Leader Steve Scalise will be able to garner enough Republican votes to be confirmed as the next Speaker of the House.
“So the vote in the conference is all the Republicans get together and they elect who they want to be the speaker. And Steve Scalise got the votes. So he’s the winner in the conference. Now, when you go to the floor, everybody votes, not just Republicans, but Democrats as well. So Democrats are all going to vote for Hakeem Jeffries, their leader, which means you basically need every single Republican to say, you know what, in the Conference with Republicans, I did vote for Jim Jordan. However, going to the floor, I’m going to vote for our guy. I’m going to vote for Steve Scalise. That is a far different vote, far different calculation. And I imagine, so Steve Scalise is now running the conference. He won the election. He’s going to have to make a determination. Can I can I get the votes when I go to the floor? And he’s got to talk to those who didn’t vote for him. And I think he’s going to be hard pressed, do I go to the floor and I really don’t have the votes? Do I want to do what Kevin McCarthy did and go through 18 votes on the floor, have the media take the attention and blow him up, call them, you know, dysfunctional, this is crazy, America and Republican leadership are disasters. So I don’t know how it’s going to play out, but I don’t think it’s going to be easy.”
Sean and Jimmy also talk about whether the Biden administration will decide to freeze the $6 billion it sent to Iran last month as part of a prisoner swap. Listen to the podcast to hear what else he had to say!
