NFL Hall of Fame Pittsburg Steelers player Mike Webster died of a heart attack in 2022, but the autopsy done by Physician, Forensic Pathologist and Neuropathologist Dr. Bennet Omalu revealed that he had been suffering from a neurodegenerative disease.
Dr. Omalu joins Liz to share the infamous story of how he was the first to discover and publish findings on chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) in American football players. He details his battle with the National Football League to shine a harsh light on neurodegenerative disease, which causes behavioral problems, mood swings, and even dementia.
