Evening Edition: FDA Says Widely Used Nasal Decongestant Doesn’t Work

Earlier this week, advisors to the Federal Drug Administration said phenylephrine, one of the key ingredients in popular over-the-counter nasal decongestants, doesn’t really work. Many are concerned that the FDA’s findings will cause commercial drugmakers to pull their products from shelves across the country, causing a shortage of cold medicine and changing the landscape of a $2 billion industry.
