Miami Mayor Francis Suarez joins Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla to clarify why he seemingly did not know what a Uyghur is when asked during a Tuesday radio interview about the ethnic group facing alleged human rights abuse by the Chinese Communist Party.

You know, it’s funny. That was the first time I had ever heard the what I always thought was Uyghur pronounced in that way. And the host, who’s kind of a gotcha guy, you know, didn’t give me any context, right? It wasn’t like he said, well how do you feel about the Uyghur issue in China where the minority Muslim population has been put into concentration camps and they face human rights violations? It was just more like, what do you think about Uyghur? And I frankly had never heard it. I mean, that’s on me. I’ve taken responsibility for never having heard that pronunciation of the word. I talk to a lot of people. Not a lot of people have heard it that way. But in a campaign, you’re going to have your moments where there are gotcha moments and you just sort of got to laugh it off and get better and certainly accept it when you get hit.”

Mayor Suarez also talks about what separates him from the numerous other 2024 GOP presidential candidates. To hear what else he had to say, listen to the podcast!
