Danny Boy O’Connor: We All Need To Try and See The Same Sunset
Founding member of the hip hop group House of Pain Danny Boy O’Connor joins Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla live from KQOB in Oklahoma City to talk about his musical career and what prompted him to buy the house where the 1983 coming-of-age movie The Outsiders was filmed.
“I was on tour, passed through, found some locations. In LA and New York, these things get torn down left, right and center. This still look like when the movie was filmed. I realized that the house was in danger of being torn down. Eventually, I stepped up. But I had very little money, no idea on how to do any of this stuff. And time was of the essence. And this is what I tell kids as well, a good education, a well-laid plan, and some source of funding would be great, but sometimes you’re not going to have that. And if you’re passionate about something and you’ve got a couple bucks in your pocket, you can figure it out step by step. And the greatest thing in the world is being six-foot-six alpha male. For years, I was afraid to ask for help because where I come from, even if it’s self taught, you’re weak and stupid if you had to ask for help. I almost died many times, not being humble and capable of asking for help. And when I got here, I was tired of it and I just said, listen, I bought this house in good faith. I don’t know what I’m doing. I hope there’s other fans out there like me, and if so, would you help? And if you help, I will turn this into a museum. Because I would want to live there if it was up to me. And this is exactly what happened. I asked for help and the help showed up.”
Danny Boy is currently the Executive Director of The Outsiders House Museum. Listen to the podcast to hear what else he had to say!
