Newt Gingrich, former speaker of the house & best-selling author out with a brand new book Defeating Big Government Socialism: Saving America’s future joined the Guy Benson Show to discuss his new book and the 2020 midterm elections and how they might shape the 2024 Republican Presidential primary elections.
Former Speaker Gingrich commented on rumors circulating that Trump might announce a 2024 bid before the 2022 midterm elections saying,
“I think it would be a mistake to announce before the election. I think the focus of this election should be on the absolute total failure of the Democrats and of big government socialism. And nothing Republicans should do should take people’s attention away from that failure. And I think the minute that Trump were to announce, you would just be in all sorts of news stories that would not help elect Republicans. It would take the heat off the Democrats and give the news media an excuse to try to maximize Republican dissent in the Republican confusion.”
Gingrich also gave his thoughts on Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his Presidential prospects saying,
“I think that he’s very much in the Trump tradition, and I think that he’s a solid cultural and economic and national security conservative. He’s a very attractive governor. I can tell you, we have bought a place in Florida and we were just very impressed with the job. Governor DeSantis is doing. And certainly, if he decides to run, it would almost automatically be a Trump DeSantis race with maybe Mike Pence in a distant third position and then everybody else.”
