Jim Sonefeld: How The Power Of Faith Helped Me Live In Life Without Drugs Or Alcohol

Longtime Hootie & the Blowfish drummer Jim Sonefeld joins Fox Across America With guest host Rich Zeoli to discuss how turning to a higher power helped save him from substance abuse in the early 2000s.

“I sort of had a literal come to Jesus meeting and realized I needed to take a different approach. I needed a different turn, I needed a sort of admission that I was powerless. And that was just the beginning. It’s sort of a long haul when you’re 40 years old and you’re a successful guy and you think you have the answers and you’ve sort of made that list that says, I’m successful. It’s a hard time to really start rethinking your thought process and the way you see life. And I did that at age 40, and it took me a few years to sort of get a grip of the true real pleasures I could live in life without drugs or alcohol. And it hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been fruitful in the fact that my family benefits. It had me take a musical turn. I write stuff that’s about the celebration of life and the hope and some faith. That gives me great pleasure. And I get to bring that music out to people. I decided about four years ago that I’d try and write down some stuff that might be useful to  other people. And that’s how I came up with the book “Swimming with the Blowfish”. I just started writing. I wasn’t formally trained, but I think we came up with a good book. I think people really appreciate the message.”

Jim details this redemption in his new book, Swimming with the Blowfish – Hootie, Healing, and One Hell of a Ride. To hear what else he had to say, listen to the podcast!
