DeVos on School Choice & Educational Freedom
On Tuesday, a major education decision came down from the Supreme Court, ruling that state tuition benefits that allocate money for parents to pay for their children’s school tuition can no longer exclude religious schools. In this 6-3 SCOTUS decision, many are celebrating this as a win for school choice and religious liberties. Major proponent of school choice and former Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos joins the Rundown to discuss her new book, ‘Hostages No More,’ what the Carson v. Makin ruling means for the separation of church and state and the future of higher education.
Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steven McCraw spoke before a Texas state Senate committee, criticizing the decisions made by law enforcement in Uvalde. McCraw says “the response to the attack at Robb Elementary was an abject failure and antithetical to everything we’ve learned.” Calls to hold the Uvalde School PD officers and their Chief Pete Arredondo accountable have increased as new information continues to emerge, but what would accountability look like? Former DOJ official and attorney at Ifrah Law PLLC, James Trusty joins the podcast to break down the mistakes made and discuss potential consequences law enforcement could face as a result.
