What’s Behind Putin’s Ukraine Obsession?
Ukraine declared a state of emergency Wednesday and began mobilizing its forces in anticipation of what intelligence suggests could be an imminent full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. The international community responded in tow, with the U.S. levying a long list of sanctions against Russia and Germany, suspending their Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. But why is Russia so interested in taking Ukraine? Retired 4-star general and Fox News Senior Strategic Analyst General Jack Keane joins to break down the context for President Putin’s fixation on Ukraine and retaking former Soviet territory. Later, Fox News Senior Foreign Affairs Correspondent Amy Kellogg shares why Russia is choosing now to invade and how this hostility is being viewed by Russian citizens.
As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate, President Biden has announced that he will be sending more troops over to Eastern Europe in order to support Ukraine and defend Baltic allies. Sergeant Dakota Meyer knows what it’s like to be deployed, though, during his time in Afghanistan, he was involved in a war zone. He’s a former US Marine and co-author of the book, The Way Forward: Master Life’s Toughest Battles and Create Your Lasting Legacy, with Rob O’Neill, the Navy SEAL involved in the mission that killed Osama bin Laden. He joins the Rundown to discuss their book coming out next week, his experience receiving the Medal of Honor in 2011, and his thoughts on the U.S. involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
