Why Is CDC Withholding COVID Data?

Despite the CDC collecting data on COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic, the agency has only released a fraction of its findings to the public. It was discovered that key information had been left out of published findings including booster effectiveness for 18- to 49-year-olds, wastewater data, and hospitalization demographics. Dr. Paul Offit, Director of the Vaccine Education Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and member of the FDA Vaccine Advisory Committee joins to debrief why he believes the CDC “should trust the American public” with the COVID-19 data, how the CDC can recover from communication errors made during the pandemic and he emphasizes the benefits of childrens’ vaccines.

Last week, San Francisco parents voted out three School Board members in a recall election. Many in the community voiced dissatisfaction with these leaders, pointing out their prioritization of progressive politics and policies over the care for students who were struggling with remote online learning. Rob Kutner was one of the parents who petitioned for the recall and he joins The Rundown to discuss how learning spaces have been deteriorating as the pandemic shifted and how politicizing the classroom has negatively impacted students.
