“I interviewed him three times, and it was from February through May. I thought at the beginning he didn’t want to run again. He seemed just very focused on midterms, the health of the Republican Party type stuff. By the end, he seemed to be talking about it a little in a way that suggested he’s at the very least thinking about it. But I always thought he really wishes he didn’t have to. He wishes that the Republican Party would figure out these gifts he gave them, of good policy ideas and the courage to fight for them. But it seems like many of the Republicans are just going back into their old ways.”
