Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI): “We Can Save Lives Even If We Can’t Save Face” In Afghanistan

On Fox Across America with Jimmy Failla, guest host Ben Domenech spoke with Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) criticized President Biden’s response to the Taliban take over of Afghanistan and why someone may have to resign because of their actions.

GALLAGHER: “What I’m seeing right now is it’s just really an operational fiasco that astounds me. So someone needs to be held accountable. And when the dust settles, someone needs to resign. I mean, I’m not calling for that right now just because we’re still at a moment where even if we can’t save face in Afghanistan, I still believe we can save lives and get our people out of there. And so it’s all hands on deck. But Congress really needs to lead a thorough investigation into just how big of a failure this was from a military planning perspective. Part of the problem, obviously Congress is not in session right now, we don’t have even have access to a classified briefing that would be necessary to understand what’s going on right now. And the call that Pelosi convened with Secretary Austin and other military representatives was a joke the other day. And Republicans basically weren’t even allowed to ask a question. And we all have constituents that are implicated by this, constituents in harm’s way, or constituents that no Afghan translators that fought with Americans that they’re concerned about. I’m encouraging Pelosi to bring us back into session early, but let’s figure out what we can do to at least save some lives, even if we can’t save face, as I put it before.”

DOMENECH: “Are you surprised that Joe Biden has taken so long to say anything to the American people about what’s going on over there?”

GALLAGHER: “What the heck has he been doing for the last three days? I mean, the White House released this picture of him at Camp David, which was I think intended give the American people some confidence. But it had the opposite effect. They made it seem like he was just hunkered down by himself. I mean, he lost the country while on vacation and he’s nowhere to be found. I understand he’s about to address the American people here shortly. I guess that’s better than what we’ve seen the last few days. But the Vice President is nowhere to be found. the White House Press Secretary is nowhere to be found. I mean, that’s really unacceptable. In times of crisis, the American people expect the President to lead. And that’s not what the Biden administration has been doing. And that on to that, the press conference that will live in infamy a few weeks ago where he said absolutely we will not see helicopters lifting people off the U.S. embassy like we saw in Saigon, the Taliban won’t rapidly take over the country. Secretary Blinken was saying the same thing. I mean, this is a real disaster for the White House and just the complete absence of leadership is making the situation worse.”
