Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL): Joy Reid And Others Think Black Republicans Are “Less Black” Than Black Democrats

On Fox Across America with Jimmy Failla, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) responded to the criticisms from Joy Reid and others have made against Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and other Black Republicans.

“I will tell you, I’m pissed. I don’t like it. I think what Joy Reid did, frankly, is the issue that happens to black conservatives all the time, where somehow we’re less Black than Black Democrats. First of all, I’ll tell you and I’ll tell Joy Reid and anybody else wants to hear it. I grew up in Brooklyn, New York. I grew up in the inner city. I grew up in a single parent household. I am a Black man. I’m also a Republican. So for you to try to come out of your mouth and say that somehow Tim Scott is less Black, you’re telling me that I’m less Black and that’s definitely not true. You know, I mean, if you came to talk to me on the side, you probably realize I’m more Black than a lot of these Black Democrats. But I don’t want to get down that line because that’s not the point. That’s not the point. The point is, is that we want to judge people by the content of their character. And whether you’re Black, white, Hispanic, it doesn’t really matter. It’s about who you are and what you stand for. That’s what should matter and so when the left does these things to Black Republicans like Tim Scott, they might as well do it to me or they’re doing the same thing to the many, many and growing black Republicans here in the United States. Let me tell you something, Black Republicans are growing.”

“And so the reason they have these attacks, talking about where the patina of diversity, is trying to make it seem as if Black people are less than in the Republican Party to try to shame or shun other Black people from actually using their own mind to decide to be a part of the Republican Party. It’s one of the worst things that’s happening right now.”
