Juan Williams Said,

“Well, you know, it’s been a lifelong interest. I am a Marshall biographer. The book is called Thurgood Marshall American Revolutionary. It was a best selling book. And, you know, it benefited from the fact that I was able to interview Justice Marshall over the course of six months while he was still on the high court. And, you know, I mean, I think sometimes people forget, but it’s captured. I think the essence of his contributions to American life, captured in something that was written in the Baltimore Afro-American many years ago. It said, you know, we have movies to celebrate Malcolm X, we have a federal holiday to celebrate the life of Dr. King. But every day in America, we live the legacy of Thurgood Marshall. And, of course, what they’re talking about there is not just civil rights. I’m sure you’re familiar with Brown v. Board of Education desegregating schools, but also in terms of press freedoms. There’s been no greater advocate of First Amendment rights than Thurgood Marshall. You think about women’s rights in this country. You know, Ruth Bader Ginsburg said the original feminist on the court was Thurgood Marshall. You know, you think about so many rights that we enjoy in this country, individual rights celebrated by liberals and conservatives, the father in terms of the law, the hard fact of the law on the book is Thurgood Marshall.”
