Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA) Has “No Regrets” After Being Censured For Officiating Same-Sex Wedding, Criticizing Trump
Saturday the Appomattox County Republican committee unanimously passed a resolution censuring Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-VA) claiming he betrayed the very morals, principals, and values of the Republican Party. The censure lists Riggleman’s public disagreements with President Trump and his role in officiating a same-sex couples wedding.
Representative Denver Riggleman spoke with Fox News Radio’s Guy Benson about the censure and his political future after losing his seat in the Republican convention earlier this year. Saying,
“I’m proud of what I did and I have no regrets and just really, again, appreciate your summary and I’m just very happy to be a freethinking American and have my First Amendment rights and also, you know, bust people up for ridiculousness, like conspiracy theories or, you know, going after me for officiating a wedding between two dear human beings.”
Riggleman casted doubt about any reentry into politics due to the tribalism of todays political climate. Saying,
“I didn’t need this job. I was never in politics. You know, I’ve been in elected office. What guy? You know, under two years. I mean, this is it for me. So I never looked at this as a career. So it makes it very difficult for me to even want to run as a Republican in a convention style because I am brutally direct and honest. The issue is, is when you get that way, when you try to speak facts, you get people who really hate you because you’re tearing apart the fabric of what they built around them as far as life is or belief systems.”
Riggleman added
“I think it’s just amazing to me that we’re at this point guy. And it’s going to be very difficult for me. I don’t know if I’d have a lane in any convention in Virginia anymore. Even in a primary. You know, that’s the issue. I don’t know if I have a lane.”
