Leonard Leo, adviser to President Trump for judicial nominations, spoke to Brian Kilmeade about why he believes President Trump picking Brett Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court is an important day for the rule of law and what the key factors were in the President’s final decision. When asked about Senator Chuck Schumer calling him out for wanting to overturn Roe v. Wade, Leo said, “Wow, that’s rather hysterical. First of all, it’s insulting and offensive to the President because there is no President who has been more committed, more engaged. This is his list, he owns it and he knows a lot about all the people on the list.” Asked if Judge Kavanaugh should recuse himself from cases brought before the Supreme Court involving the Mueller investigation, Leo said, “Why? Why should he recuse himself? He has no connection to anything that is going on right now. That is absolutely absurd. Ruth Ginsberg doesn’t recuse herself from abortion cases because she talked about Roe v. Wade. Elena Kagan doesn’t recuse herself from gay rights cases because she has comments on LGBT issues. This is just an intended distraction. We need to get back to the business of keeping courts out of politics and we need to get back to the business of confirmation hearings that focus on the real qualifications of judging.”
