Rand Paul: We Place Too Much Emphasis On Polling
“I think we ought to do one debate where we do choose them out of a hat…and have 4 or 5 at a table and have more of a lengthy discussion. I think if it were a completely different kind of debate, you might actually get a big audience again if you had 5 people around a table having a more legitimate discussion about the issues of the day.”
-Senator Rand Paul’s idea for the next GOP debate
GOP 2016 presidential candidate, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul, called into Kilmeade & Friends to talk about the upcoming Fox Business debate, why he feels we place too much emphasis on polls and why it’s too early to start eliminating candidates form debates. Plus, Paul says President Obama rejecting the Keystone Pipeline is another example of how he has single handedly put the kibosh on adding more jobs to the economy at a time when Americans are struggling to find work.
Listen here:
everybody said he was down 5 points the day before the election, he won by 8. So they were off by 13 points in the last week of the election. We are 6 months out and I think it’s going to change quite a bit. I have been saying all along, I don’t think Trump or Carson will be the leader, yet they are getting 50% of these uncommitted leaner polls, so I would like to see everybody have a chance for a longer period of time. In fact, at the very least, I think we ought to do one debate where we choose them out of a hat, anybody who legitimately is traveling and has staff and is raising a legitimate amount of money, draw them out of a hat and have 4 or 5 at a table and have more of a lengthy discussion. I think if it were a completely different kind of debate, you might actually get a big audience again if you had 5 people around a table having a more legitimate discussion about the issues of the day.”
Kilmeade: Senator, on some level you must be happy governor Christie dropped? You guys have been sparring for 2 years.
Paul: Yeah, we do have our disagreements but I also have sympathy for people who are putting a lot of energy and their life traveling around. You know, I have the same kind of sympathy for people who are probably doing better than is actually represented in the polls or might be doing better. But, we are placing so much emphasis on the polling and I think, probably too much.”
