The Unraveling of Iraq

Emma Sky author of “The Unraveling: High Hopes and Missed Opportunities in Iraq” and the political advisor to U.S. General Ray Odierno from 2007 to 2010 talked to Brian about her new book and how she ended up in Iraq.

Emma talked to Brian about making the trip to Iraq and how she ended up reporting to Ambassador Bremer and then working with U.S. General Ray Odierno. Emma expressed her belief that the soldiers didn’t always know what the right thing to do was but that they really wanted to do the right thing get Iraq back on its feet and giving Iraqis hope for a better future. Emma also told Brian that she was skeptical that the surge was going to work, but General Odierno was confident that if they went from fighting the insurgents to protecting the civilian population they could win the hearts of the Iraqi people.
