Dr. Larry Sabato, Director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, checked in with Brian this morning to discuss his recent article where he ranked a number of potential 2016 candidates including Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Scott Walker and Chris Christie.
Dr. Sabato said while Ted Cruz's recent announcement to run for president was well-planned; he puts him the second tier of his rankings. He applauds Cruz for his ability to give great speeches, but doesn't feel that the freshman Texas Senator has a good chance of getting the GOP nomination. Dr. Sabato adds Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum also belong in the second tier bracket.
As far as candidates who he thinks have a real shot at getting nominated, Dr. Sabato says Scott Walker is "impressive," and points out that Marco Rubio has a "raw ability" that make them his two top pics under Jeb Bush.
