Vipp’s World of Nonsense: Not even minimum wage at the White House?

Around 30,000 interns are employed by the federal government every summer. But did you know that interns at the White House don’t get paid a cent and are expected to work a minimum of 45 hours a week for 11 weeks?

I appreciate that working at the White House is an opportunity of a lifetime for our young adults, but isn’t this bordering on some kind of discrimination because kids from low income families cannot afford to work for free, especially for 11 weeks?

And while we are on the topic of free labor, maybe the president should work for free, as well. After all, the presidency gives you a great house, a private jet, a car, a driver, your very own team of bodyguards, an exclusive medical team, a private chef, domestic help, a wardrobe stylist, etc. All paid for by us the taxpayers. So what use is a salary?

Maybe his salary could be given to the interns. Just a thought…

In the meantime, I will go back to reading my book by George Orwell, appropriately called “Animal Farm”.
