[VIDEO] The Man Behind “Walden on Wheels,” Ken Ilgunas!

KEN ILGUNAS, author of Walden on Wheels: On the Open Road from Debt to Freedom, talked to Brian about the debt he accumulated during his undergraduate college, how he paid it all off, and how he managed to stay debt-free with his unstoppable determination.  Ilgunas explained that after getting turned down by dozens of jobs, he moved up to northern Alaska  and became a tour guide.

“After two and a half years of working on and off in Alaska, I pay off my $32,000 student debt, and I have about $4,000 left in the bank,“ Ilgunas explained.

With all his debt cleared, Ilgunas was determined to never go into debt again, but he wanted a graduate education.  After getting accepted into all three programs he applied to, he chose to attend Duke University.  “The climate would be more agreeable living in a van compared to some of the other schools,” he explained.
