BRIAN’S OPENING THOUGHTS
Brian is not happy with the arguments President Obama made in Connecticut yesterday regarding the importance of enhanced background checks. PLUS: Brian is alarmed by the tension with North Korea, and looks into what steps the country needs to take next.
HOUR ONE
Dan Baum, author of Gun Guys: A Road Trip, talked to Brian about President Obama’s speech in Connecticut yesterday, where he argued that enhanced background checks will help the country stay safer with guns. Baum, a liberal Democrat Obama supporter, said that Obama is wrong on this.
He said that Obama needs to stop spreading the stigma that gun guys are a problem, and instead, start looking at these individuals as an asset. He went onto explain the findings from his book: “In my experience, gun guys that I’ve met don’t really have a problem with enhanced background checks as long as it does not lead to registration,” Baum explained. However, he said that the individuals he has talked to who own guns do not want to the police to have a list of gun owners.

HOUR TWO
FOX News’ National Security Correspondent Jennifer Griffin talked to Brian about the latest news surrounding North Korea. Griffin explained that the Pentagon, along with other government officials, is taking North Korea’s threats of nuclear war very seriously. She went on to say that there are many dates that North Korea could tag a missile launch to, including April 15th, the birthday of North Korea’s founding father, Kim Jong-un’s grandfather.
Rob Wade, Executive Producer of the X-Factor, talked to Brian about the open auditions for Season 3 of the hit TV show. Wade told Brian that he is in the midst of selecting new judges for this season, but no names have been finalized.

HOUR THREE
Warren Littlefield, former NBC President of Entertainment and author of “Top of the Rock: Inside the Rise & Fall of Must See TV,” joined Brian on his radio show, and besides talking about his book, he weighed in on the late night wars of today and yesterday! Littlefield revealed that Letterman’s representation maneuvered him out of hosting The Tonight Show because they were “so aggressive and so difficult in their negotiation assuming they had Johnny the King, and they didn’t!” Littlefield continued, “When push came to shove, we didn’t have a choice…it was a terrible terrible crime to let David Letterman get away, but we only had one chair and ultimately my vote was to go to Jay Leno and it ended up being worth a few billion dollars to NBC.”
Littlefield went on to say that he thinks Letterman is brilliant at what he does but didn’t think he had the universal appeal that Johnny Carson had and that Jay would have. Littlefield thinks Jay never got the credit he deserves considering he is still number one given all of the changes in the late night landscape with Comedy Central, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon. Littlefield also explained why NBC most likely made the deal to have Fallon take over for Leno in 2014.

Will Bowen, pastor and author of Happy This Year: the Secret to Getting Happy Once and for All, explained how he got the idea for his book. Bowen said he decided to perform an experiment to try and get participants to go 21 days without complaining. He explained that once he kicked off the experiment, 10 million people in 106 countries joined in on the challenge. Bowen cited that the core reasons the experiment succeeded is because people identify that, “The world isn’t the way we would like it to be and… there’s too much complaining.”
