The Goodies That Make Us Chillax: What’s YOUR Favorite Comfort Food?

I just read an article in the Vancouver Sun about the different comfort foods people enjoy.

You know, those are the goodies that make us CHILLAX. They can make us feel cozy on a stormy night. They can help cheer us up after a miserable day of fighting the Universe.

They can be sinful or healthy. Salty or sweet or both.

Anyone who has listened to my show over the years has a pretty good chance of identifying my favorite comfort food.

Sushi.

Oh yes. RAW fish, baby. Not that imitation Sushi that shouldn’t even be called that. Although, seriously, there are many good ones that don’t feature raw fish.

I don’t know why it is, but the taste of raw salmon or tuna makes everything right in my world. Nine times out of ten, at least.

Luckily I know a few good all-you-can-eat sushi places for when I really feel like indulging.

But it’s not always convenient or cost effective to run out and eat this elusive comfort food. It’s not like I stock it in my fridge or freezer.

So I have to have backups.

Popcorn popped in our old style popcorn maker. Lightly drizzled with margarine (butter if it’s been a really long week…what the heck).

Rice and beans mixed up together…my late mother would always make this for me as a staple treat/side dish growing up. It’s called gallo-pinto in Spanish and is a tradition in my mother’s native Nicaragua. The rice and beans are fried together and the rice takes on the coloring of the beans. Oh my. DELICIOUS. I miss my mother’s cooking.

Sometimes just a bowl of cereal does the trick, too.

What is YOUR comfort food?

Go help yourself to some and ENJOY every bite.

Think I’m gonna make some rice and beans. Wait. It’s 8:30 in the morning as I write this.

Maybe I’ll just stick to sushi this early.
