President Trump Seeks “Historic” $54 Billion Increase in Defense Spending

President Trump asking for an increase in military spending.

FOX’s Jon Decker reports from the White House:

White House Budget Officials just announced the President will seek an additional $54 billion in spending for the Department of Defense.

The President will then seek a commensurate reduction in discretionary spending across the remainder of government, including a large reduction in foreign aid:

(President Trump) “The government must learn to tighten its belt. Something families all across the country have had to learn to do.”

Some budget hawks have questioned the need for a large increase in U.S. military spending, which already stands at roughly $600 billion annually.

The President’s budget proposal must still be negotiated with the Republican-led Congress.
