New York City Chef Danny Meyer Bans Tipping From His Restaurants

Acclaimed New York City chef, Danny Meyer, the man behind Shake Shack and various other New York City institutions, has decided to ban tipping from his restaurants.

FOX News’ Trace Gallagher explains why:

In a public letter, Meyer says, “We believe hospitality is a team sport, and that it takes an entire team to provide you with the experiences you have come to expect from us. Unfortunately, many of our colleagues, our cooks, reservationists, and dishwashers to name a few, aren’t able to share in our guests’ generosity.”

As you might imagine, many waiters are not happy because while they might wind up getting the same amount of money, now all the money is 100% taxable… Something that traditionally has been very difficult to verify when you’re dealing with cash tips.

Restaurant owners are also being pinched as we all know, because of new laws that mandate health insurance, sick leave, and overtime.
