Guns In America: Gun Control Bill Proposals

Depending on what state you live in, your legislature may be working to fight gun violence, or working to protect your rights to own a gun.

FOX News Radio’s Hank Weinbloom reports in our special series “Guns in America”:

Audio clip:

Guns In America.

Maryland and Texas: two states going in two very different directions.

Maryland’s legislature working on measures to ban assault weapons and require all handguns to be licensed.

Prominent gun control advocate Sarah Brady lending her support to the bill.

(Brady) “The states are the ones that push the Congress, which is always ten steps behind the rest of the world.”

Now if Congress does pass something, Texas is making plans to deal with it. A bill is being proposed to make it a crime in Texas for police officers to enforce any gun control law passed by Congress.

One supporter of the bill saying the federal government is not our boss.

people who say that Ar-15s are the only firearms that are proposed to be banned obviously have not read the full text of the bill, and therefore, by the definition of the word, are ignorant.
Speaking of ignorance. When people say that they do not want more laws passed because the criminals won’t obey them, they are speaking of laws that only affect the law abiding citizen’s ability to own firearms that are readily available, not other laws. When you pass a law that bans guns and magazines that already exist, everyone says “OK” and the good guys, forced to follow the laws by their personal moral code, stop making, selling, purchasing those firearms just like a good guy should. The criminals also say “OK” Accept that it is the law, and then pursue the firearms anyways, knowing that they are available elsewhere.

So ban all guns? Remove them from America entirely? Wishful thinking; unless the entire world disarms and destroys all guns from existence ( Which will NEVER happen) by passing these laws and bans you are doing nothing but keeping the criminals strong and disarming us good guys. In doing so you destroy the only deterrent we have against the criminals at the moment of the “unthinkables” that they commit. Jail time obviously has never worked as a proper deterrent. The fear of death or injury is much stronger, and injury usually leads to them being caught anyways, you can’t avoid the hospital with a nearly quarter inch hole or two through your chest.
I respect and appreciate the police with all of my soul, but they cannot stop the crimes, they can only find and arrest the criminals long after the deed is done. The only way for my family, myself and my property to be protected is for me to be one step ahead of the bad guys, and I feel like having my scary guns and magazines does just that.

Contrary to popular belief, I and 99.99% (This is an opinionated, literally unsupportable statistic, for all you people who believe that any statistic whatsoever is somehow unbiased) of all responsible, law abiding firearms owners/licensed carriers am NOT Rambo, my CCW is 100% intended to play a very very small role in the deterrence of criminals preying on not only myself and my family, but YOU as well. The more responsible firearm owners who carry, the more fear we strike in the minds of criminals who may intend to harm you or your children for personal gain. Criminals are cowards who only prey on the weak, if we are all strong; we no longer stand as prey to the man with empty pockets who intends to take your money or belongings no matter what so that he can feed his pointless wants…or maybe even to feed his family. More simply put, I have 100% zero intention to brandish or fire my weapon in any place I lawfully have the right to be, including my home, unless I am 110% sure that it is necessary and am completely certain that if I do not, harm will come to myself, my family, or even to you and your family.

Am I guaranteed to stop a group of thugs assaulting me at 3 am at the local ATM? Of course not, but I have the right to try.
And finally, Please, please stop calling the .223 a high powered cartridge, the bullet only reaches such “high velocities” *insert sarcasm* and “long distances” *insert more sarcasm* because of its tiny size and light weight, its simple physics. Compare the energy in foot pounds of the .223 to a standard .308 or even more popular 30-06 hunting cartridge and I guarantee you will change your mind on what high powered means, and yes there are many .308 (and other caliber) hunting rifles that are semi-automatic that have almost never been used in crimes.

Should we the people fear the government? Absolutely not; should the government fear the people? Only if their motives threaten our most basic rights, we the People are, after all, the most powerful, lawful check and balance.
"We aren’t taking away your ‘”””Assault weapons””””’, just banning the sale of any more of them" OHHHH! Wow, I didn't realize that my future unborn children don't fall under the protection of the constitution…..what "common sense!" I am enlightened…

What an incredibly biased and irresponsible manner in which to introduce this article: "…Your legislature may be working to fight gun violence, or working to protect your rights to own a gun." Shame on you.

The obviousness of the bias need not be explained; it's dramatically evident. It's irresponsible, because it simply isn't true; it's a lie.

Less guns does not equal less crime. It never has and it never will. Do a little research and grow up.
