A western Pennsylvania boy is dead, the victim of an accidental gunshot wound from his own father.

FOX News Radio’s Chris Hoenig has details:

Police say 7-year-old Craig Loughrey was shot in the chest Saturday when a handgun his father was putting in his truck fired accidentally.  The pair had gone to a hunting store in East Lackawannock Township, north of Pittsburgh, to try to sell some guns.  Store owner Gladys Mahoney says the pistol’s magazine was empty, but there apparently was a round left in the chamber.

(Mahoney) “Instead of checking, they’ll pull the magazine out and they will not check the chamber.  And it’s just an unfortunate incident.”

Loughrey was buckling himself into his safety seat when the 9mm pistol Joseph Loughrey was putting into the console went off.
