Paterno Statue Taken Down At Penn State

The statue of former Penn State head coach Joe Paterno has been taken down outside Beaver Stadium in State College, Pennsylvania.

Like many other aspects of the Jerry Sandusky abuse scandal, there was deep controversy over the statue of Joe Paterno.

(For the Statue) “Do you think the statue should still stand?” “Yes”

But the legacy of the beloved coach, known as “JoePa”, took a big hit when the investigation led by former FBI Director Louis Freeh concluded Paterno did not raise the alarm about Sandusky’s crimes and may have helped cover them up.

(Against the Statue) “We’ve all made mistakes. This one was large.”

Despite the continued support, the statue of a younger Paterno, pointing upward his jacket and tie blowing in the wind has now been taken down.

(Against the Statue) “We put him on a pedestal, we put him too high.”
