Watchdog Group Files Lawsuit against President Trump Over Foreign Payments

A lawsuit has been filed that accuses President Donald Trump of business dealings that violate the constitution.

FOX’s Gurnal Scott with the story:

The group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in government filed the suit in New York, saying the President’s business continues to take money from foreign governments, specifically for office space in his buildings.

They say that violates the First Amendment’s emoluments clause, prohibiting politicians from being swayed by foreign money.

President Trump was asked about the lawsuit today at the White House:

(President Trump) “Without merit, totally without merit.”

Earlier this month, the President said he’d donate foreign payments to the U.S. Treasury.

An online petition at WhiteHouse.gov alleging similar violations, has garnered more than 260,000 signatures, surpassing the threshold for a White House response.
