Dale Earnhardt Jr. Retires ‘Amelia’ Car After Crashes at Talladega

Dale Earnhart Jr. rebuilt one of his best cars, hoping for a win at Talladega, that plan backfired on him.

FOX’s Chris Hoenig reports:

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s beloved car, Amelia is heading to the big junkyard in the sky. Actually, the big junkyard in his backyard.

Jr. won twice last year in the car, named for Amelia Earhart and had never finished lower than third. That was until he crashed twice on Sunday at Talladega on FOX:

(Earnhardt Jr.) “The car wasn’t driving very well. It was on the split real bad, real real bad, the first run in that run. The tight threw the center on the splitter and it swings it back and then you’re on that pack in the middle of that area, no real downforce on the back of the car, it just gets loose.”

In non-NASCAR speak: The car was too hard to control, so he crashed. Amelia’s burned shell will now rest in the woods on Jr.’s North Carolina property with the rest of his retired race cars.
