The second-largest retail pharmacy chain in the United States says it will stop selling tobacco products nationwide.

FOX News Radio’s Eben Brown has the story:

CVS Pharmacy says come October, they won’t sell you cigarettes, pipe tobacco, or even those mass-produced cigars with the plastic tips.

Merlo: “Tobacco products have no place in a setting where healthcare is delivered.”

    Larry Merlo, CVS’ Chief Executive–

Merlo: “We are helping millions of patients manage chronic conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. And all of these conditions are made worse by smoking.”

The company says they’ll have to do without two-billion a year in tobacco sales at their 7,600 stores. They do plan to offer smoking cessation programs.
