The White House rolls out President Obama’s executive plan for toughening up the nation’s defenses against cyber attacks.

The goal is to make the government and industry share cyber threat information. General Keith Alexander of Cyber Command says the targets are often private companies of which the government is often unaware.
(Alexander) “These blind spots prevent us from being in a position to help the critical infrastructure to protect itself.”
The order also directs agencies to draw up a set of voluntary defense measures for industry to follow.
(Block) “An approach that draws from the most advanced ideas, the strongest efforts and the best practices.”
Deputy Commerce Secretary Rebecca Blank. But the White House says Congress needs to pass legislation giving government new tools, an effort that became bogged down in fights over privacy and regulation.
