UPDATE: News helicopter footage shows the cabin Dorner is believed to be hiding in is fully engulfed in flames. FOX News affiliate KTTV in Los Angeles reports a body has been removed from the cabin. There is no official word, but authorities believe it may be Dorner.
A fugitive ex-cop has engaged in a shootout with authorities at a Big Bear cabin after breaking into another cabin, tying up a couple and stealing their truck, according to a law enforcement source.
FOX News Radio’s Jessica Rosenthal has the latest from Los Angeles:
Audio clip:
San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputies say they got a call from someone that a man matching Christopher Dorner’s description stole their vehicle. They say he abandoned the car and barricaded himself inside a cabin, after which law enforcement swarmed the area. Gunfire was exchanged, two officers were shot and our affiliate here, KTTV, says one of them has since died. Even though the cabin is surrounded, deputies are checking cars just to be safe as they come down the mountain.
(Sheriff’s Deputy) “To make sure that our suspect is not in any of those vehicles, that the victims or the drivers were not carjacked, and that he’s maybe hiding in their vehicles.”
Police have asked that reporters stop tweeting and that helicopter cameras pull back from the scene.
