Russian Czar Gems Discovered in USGS Book

There is a lot of talk about “czars” in Washington these days, but the agency that monitors earthquakes and the like has clues to missing crown jewels from the last real Russian Czar.

A nearly century-old book of the Russian crown jewels recently resurfaced in the library of the U.S. Geological Survey. It belonged to a Tiffany official and has many of the same or similar pictures to those in another book that is part of the official record of the Romanov gems, but the U.S.G.S. book has four extra pictures.
(Huffine) “We’ve identified four pieces of jewelry that were part of the Russian crown jewels in 1922 that were never documented as part of the crown jewels.”

Richard Huffine with the U.S.G.S. says they include a brooch, bracelet, necklace and a tiara. Huffine says they have reached out the keepers of Russia’s crown jewels to see if they can collaborate on finding out where the missing gems went.
