Protests Over President’s Powers In Egypt

A political crisis grows in Egypt, where the latest protest over President Mohammed Morsi’s powers is coming from the courts.

Egypt’s highest courts say they’re suspending their work in protest of the President’s decree that granted him power over them. On the streets, it’s a sixth day of protests in Cairo’s Tahrir Square.

Yesterday saw one of the largest protests since the over-throw of Hosni Mubarak. Morsi has tried to defuse the crisis by saying his powers will be limited in scope, but the protesters are promising to continue their demonstration. Egypt’s Prime Minister is chairing a cabinet meeting today to discuss the situation.
