Securing America: Stopping Cyber Attacks
Attacks over the internet are rapidly moving from data theft to full-on cyber assaults, like the Stuxnet virus that destroyed a thousand centrifuges in Iran’s nuclear program. The head of the U.S. Cyber Command testified last week about the Obama Administration’s readiness for a major cyber attack on the power grid.

The head of the U.S. Cyber Command warned Congress that, in many cases, by the time his team hears about a cyber breach on a public network, it’s too late to stop it.
(Gen. Alexander) “If a missile were coming into the country, and we had no radars to see it, we couldn’t stop that missile. If we have a cyber attack coming in, and no one tells us that that cyber attack is going on, we can’t stop it.”
General Alexander said the government needs more real-time capability to stop cyber attacks, and, ultimately, more latitude to combine traditional kinetic attacks with the Command’s growing cyber capabilities.
