MLB: Wild Card Races Get Really Wild

    America’s Pastime managed to avoid some playoff overtime, as the wild card races in both the American and National Leagues got truly wild.

    The Atlanta Braves held an 8 1/2-game lead on the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL in early September.  To lose that lead would be a Major League record for the worst collapse in history.  Of course, that’s only if the Boston Red Sox didn’t blow their 9-game September lead over the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL.  And on Wednesday, the Sox were only one strike away from winning…and the Rays were only one strike away from losing, results that would send Boston to the postseason.
