[AUDIO] @WRMead on what makes a great orator
What makes a great orator: The way a person speaks or the actions that follow? WALTER RUSSELL MEAD, Professor of foreign affairs and humanities at Bard College, talked to Brian about memorable speeches in history and what Obama has to do in order to make himself a better orator. Mead explained that in his opinion, President Obama’s problem as an orator is that he thinks making the speech is the action. He cited Obama’s 2009 speech in Cairo about America standing up for democracy anywhere in the world, and then taking back his words less than a week later after a protest broke out in Iran after the disputed election.
