Hurricane Irene; beating on the Bahamas.

"She is - definitely a very powerful hurricane altogether with 115mph winds."

That was Meteorologist Michael Schlacter - speaking with the guys at 95-3MNC Michaianas News Channel.

And -- as Schlacter warns:

"Category 2 or category 3 hurricanes should never be taken lightly whether people are used to it or not."

Irene continues her path bearing down on the East Coast of the United States.

And as a result, people are being told to get out of her way.

And out of the water.

The NAVY -- ordering warships in Virginia out of her path.

"We heard from FEMA today - the Federal Emergency Management Agency - saying it's not just the East Coast - it's well inland that you have to worry about - heavy rains and flooding - storm surges are going to cause some big issues not only from the Carolinas but up into DC, Baltimore, New York City."

New Jersey is fully bracing for Irene -- Governor Chris Christie issuing a state of emergency.
