Today the state of California starts collecting sales tax from internet purchases, but this effort to raise revenue could backfire big time! Online retailers Amazon and Overstock.com have already ended their affiliate relationships with over 25,000 California websites! Should online retailers charge their customers the same taxes that brick-and-mortar stores are forced to collect?
The TSA came under attack this week for its invasive search of a 95-year-old woman in an adult diaper, and now they reportedly let a Nigerian man onto a plane without a valid boarding pass! Why is this agency so dysfunctional? Then, should the government and mass transit companies keep better track of who is riding their trains and buses?
FDA Rejects Avastin
The FDA has voted that the drug Avastin should no longer be sold as a treatment for breast cancer, saying it doesn't work and can carry serious side effects. Some breast cancer patients swear by it, but now health insurance companies are not going to pay for the pricey drug. Would you pay $50,000 to $100,000 a year out of your own pocket for a drug that would prolong your life? Does this FDA decision hurt poor and middle class Americans? And is it sexist?
