Memorial day weekend is upon us! --it's what some consider to be the first official kick-off into summer...
People - in masses - will be hitting the road
The President for the Alliance to Save Energy - Kateri Callahan says don't let the sky high gas prices keep you from enjoying this holiday weekend!
"What are some of the best things that we can do - to make sure that we don't burn as much gas as otherwise we might."
"Well, the first thing is drive smart. That's where you're going to get the biggest savings believe it or not. If you avoid aggressive driving, particularly on the highway, you can improve your gas mileage by about 33%, and at today's prices that means you could save about $900 dollars a year."
That was Callahan speaking with Forrest Goodman at WERC in Birmingham, AL...
"Explain what aggressive driving is... "
"That means - speeding. Rapid acceleration. Rapid breaking."
"Let me give you an example, Scott. For every five miles an hour over sixty - that you drive - its like adding a quarter a gallon to what you're paying for gas at the pump - so that's going to put you well north of $4 dollars a gallon."
Who wants that???
My pocket hurts with what we're paying at the pumps now!
Callahan says that keeping the speedometer at around 60 miles per hour is generally a really good rule of thumb - as far as fuel economy goes. I may have to take heed to that advice, myself.
