A California teacher who rattled a table to get his class to pay attention has been placed on paid administrative leave.

According to the Palo Alto Daily News, the teacher's "table rattle" startled an eighth-grader at Selby Lane School in Atherton. The student left class and called the police department.

The police determined the teacher did not cause a disturbance and said other students in the class were not bothered by the teacher's action.

The Redwood City School District's deputy superintedent told the Associated Press the teacher was placed on leave because the police were caleld to the school. He is also under a district investigation.
