Despite warnings from the Obama Administration and General Petraeus, Reverend Terry Jones remained determined to burn Korans on the anniversary of September 11th. But on Thursday, he changed his mind saying in a press conference that the he will cancel the Koran burning event because the Imam of the Islamic Society of Central Florida told him that officials would guarantee that the controversial mosque to be built at Ground Zero would be moved. This claim has not been confirmed, but it has been confirmed that the U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates called the pastor to explain the dangerous consequences of burning the Koran. Gates likely elaborated on the point General Petraeus had made earlier in the week: that burning the Koran put troops overseas in danger and would serve as a recruitment tool for terrorists.
