Twoppics, the stories behind the hottest topics on Twitter.
Hot twoppic of the moment: Monday night the Major League Baseball Homerun Derby was on, and Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, aka "Big Papi," killed it in the last round with 11 homeruns. He was crowned the champ, becoming the first Red Sox player to win the title.
Hot twoppic of the day: New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, who died on Tuesday morning of a heart attack. Steinbrenner was 80 years old. Credited for revolutionizing the Yankees, and the role of the team owner, Steinbrenner ruled the Yankees for over 30 years. His death was the second in three days to sadden the Yankees. Bob Sheppard, the team's public address announcer from 1951 to 2007, died Sunday at the age of 99.
Hot twoppic of the week is Old Spice, the first promoted tweet on Twitter that made it into the trending topics due to a pretty hysterical online marketing campaign. The Old Spice Guy, played in the memorable, Emmy-nominated commercials by Isaiah Mustafa, is responding to tweets via YouTube videos that feature the shirtless hunk coming out of a shower. So if you send a message to @oldspice, you could get a personal YouTube response, like Olympic skater @apoloohno did.
