Twoppics, the stories behind the hottest topics on Twitter.
Hot twoppic of the moment is Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski, who is a free man after the Swiss government decided not to extradite him to the US. Polanski was pled guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl in 1977...he fled the U.S. before sentencing. He has been under house arrest in Switzerland since December, but now, he can leave whenever he wants. Tweets on both sides of the issue flooded Twitter. @satanicdisco tweets Switzerland's decision not to extradite Roman Polanski is disgusting. Brilliant film maker but that doesn't mean he should escape punishment while film critic @richardroeper tweets Roman Polanski's first act as a "free man" -- sending Mel Gibson a giant bouquet with a note: "Thanks for making me look relatively sane."
Hot twoppic of the day and week --- there is a new World Cup Champ, and Pulpo Paul, the Oracle Octopus, can officially say, "I told you so!" The octopus picked Spain to take the title over Holland, and on Sunday, they did just that in overtime. Spain's Andres Iniesta scored the winning goal, as heard on ESPN/ABC Sports. And Spain's goalkeeper, Iker Casillas has won the Golden Glove Award as the tournament's best goalkeeper. But on Monday, FIFA president Joseph Sepp Blatter criticized both teams for their unsportsmanlike behavior - there were a record 14 yellow cards and one red card during the final match. It was one of the most watched events ever: an estimated 700 million people tuned in for the match.
