The 1-0 win over Algeria means the U.S. is moving on to the next round which is whittled down to 16 teams. This was the first time the USA won its qualifying group since 1930.

American John Isner and France's Nicolas Mahut have played 10 hours of tennis in their first-round match, which began on Tuesday with four sets. On Wednesday, the match was called for darkenss in the fifth set at a score of 59-59. The match will continue on Thursday.

General Stanley McChrystal was relieved as the Commander of Coalition Forces in Afghanistan after questionable comments he made in a magazine article. President Obama appointed General David Petraeus as McChrystal's replacement. Petraeus awaits confirmation by the Senate to officially take the post.
