Twoppics, the stories behind the hottest topics on Twitter.
Hot twoppic of the moment is "American Idol" - a new winner was crowned -- while the former paint salesman from Chicago celebrated, runner up Crystal Bowersox had nothing to cry about. The spotlight was shared with Simon Cowell, who bid farewell to "Idol" after nine seasons. Even Paula returned to remind viewers of their hot and cold chemistry.
Hot twoppic of the day and the week is the Gulf oil spill, which has surpassed the Exxon Valdez as the worst oil spill in U.S. history. A team of scientists have determined the oil is leaking between 2 and five times more than what was originally estimated, putting the oil in the Gulf at 19 million gallons, almost double the 11 million spilled by the Exxon Valdez. The top kill procedure BP employed late Wednesday, injecting mud into the leak seems to be working according to the Coast Guard. But President Obama at a press conference in Washington urged caution. The President called the spill an "unprecedented disaster," but made clear the blame is on BP and the government is in charge. President Obama will be in Louisiana on Friday to see the oil spill damage first hand.
