College and War come between two young lovers in this week's FOXLight DVD release roundup. Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum meet, fall in love, and then plan to separate for a year while she completes college and he completes his military service in Dear John.  But when war breaks out, that year gets extended indefinitely. Can their relationship survive? Based on the Nicholas Sparks novel.

Father and son travel across a barren, post-apocalyptic America in The Road. Viggo Mortensen is the dad, Kodi Smit-McPhee is the son, and Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall and Guy Pearce round out the cast of the film based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by No Country For Old Men author Cormac McCarthy.

Also out this week...

The 2008 writers' strike caused on-the-sidelines Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon to team up with Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day for the online miniseries Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, a musical superhero satire. The 45 minute film is joined with featurettes and two commentary tracks: one with the cast and Whedon discussing the movie, and a second called "Commentary: The Musical" where they ignore the movie altogether to sing about the writers' strike and each other.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Live: Legends is a 3 DVD set featuring performances from throughout the past 25 years of induction ceremonies, like Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck dueling on "Beck's Bolero", or Chuck Berry, Keith Richards and Bruce Springsteen taking on Berry's "Roll Over Beethoven".  But there's also 4+ hours of bonus material, much from behind-the-scenes rehearsals.

New to Blu-ray this week...

Spartacus: 50th Anniversary Edition, a beautiful restoration of the Kirk Douglas/Sir Laurence Olivier classic...

Arguably the very first western to move the genre from B-movies to the A-list, the 1939 John Ford-directed and John Wayne starring Stagecoach...

And what some might consider Sir Laurence Olivier's move from the sublime (see above) to the ridiculous, 1981's Clash of the Titans, where the master thespian is joined by future TV star Harry Hamlin and a mechanical owl (!!!).

And TV on DVD includes...

Cable-TV hits True Blood: The Complete 2nd Season...Leverage: The 2nd Season...and Royal Pains: Season 1...

Canadian import Flashpoint: Season 2...

Classic western The Virginian: The Complete 1st Season

And don't forget about the FREE and fabulous FOXLight Podcast, which takes the cream of the above DVD releases and grafts on the week's big music picks for good measure.  Get it, as always, here.
