STOLEN - a 7 foot high cross - which stood on a rock in Mojave National Preserve.

Its withstood 75 years of blazing hot desert sun and even a trip up the judicial ladder - all the way to the Supreme Court!

Since 2002 - the cross has been covered with a tarp or a pine box while the legal battle pushed on over whether or not it's a religious symbol.

Most recently the Supreme Court - last month refused to order that it be torn down - and referred the case back down to the lower courts for further review.

The bolts that held the Cross to the ground - were cut - and it was stolen Sunday night.

There's even a 25,000 dollar reward being offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

It was erected in 1934 as a memorial to troops who died in World War 1.
