Twoppics, the stories behind the hottest topics on twitter.
What's hot this very minute?
The sci-fi alien movie District 9 opens tomorrow, many took to twitter to tweet their excitement, plan a midnight viewing and share reviews. District 9 has been one of the most hyped films of the summer, partially due to filmmaker Peter Jackson, who is one of the producers of the movie.
Your hot twoppic of the day is Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte Stallworth, whose name was constantly tweeted this morning after news broke that the NFL had suspended him without pay for the entire season.
Stallworth pleaded guilty to the second-degree felony of DUI manslaughter on June 16, and was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Hot twoppic of the week is Facebook Lite. All week twitter has been buzzing about the newer "lighter" version of Facebook. The company explained in a statement: "Facebook Lite is a fast-loading, simplified version of Facebook that enables people to make comments, accept friend requests, write on people's walls, and look at photos and status updates.
The new site will be especially useful for those with a slow Internet connection, and Facebook hopes it generates more users worldwide.
Now time for a little Twitter 101
A hashtag is actually the pound symbol.
When you place it before a word and add it to a tweet, it acts as way to create categories for tweets that others can use as well.
For example, if a group is at meeting and tweeting their notes in real time, if everyone at that meeting added a hashtag such as hastagmeeting2009 to their tweets, everyone present or not can see and share all the notes in one place.
Hashtags could help spread information in a community, get news, promote events, and more -- So start tweeting!
